I am the owner of Melissa Harper Photography. I have loved taking pictures all of my life. I started professionally taking pictures of my daughters and for the past 17 years, I've been taking pictures for others. I love taking outdoor photos, capturing the innocence of newborns, and photographing the unique personality of high school seniors.

I am constantly trying to better myself in the photography field. I strive to make my shoots fun and relaxed making for great keepsake photographs.

Photography has been my passion since childhood, and for over 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of capturing my friends' and family’s most special moments. I was always the one with a camera at every family event, ensuring that no precious memory went undocumented. Once my children finished homeschooling, I decided to turn my love for photography into a full-time career. I find joy in capturing not just the big milestones, but the little, everyday moments that often become the most cherished memories. When I’m not behind the camera, I enjoy spending time with my family, hunting for hidden treasures at antique and thrift stores, and binge-watching HGTV. My husband and I love to travel, and the mountains are my happy place. Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, sweet iced tea runs through my veins.

I've been capturing the beauty of everyday life since I was a little girl, always drawn to the magic in the “ordinary.” My mom encouraged my creative spark, helping me see the value in preserving those special moments. I have a deep love for lifestyle photography, especially when it comes to capturing the authentic, organic moments shared between loved ones—like a stolen kiss or a spontaneous hug from siblings who “never seem to get along.” To me, it's the little details that matter the most!

When I'm not behind the camera, I’m filled with a creative energy and a love for working with families and children. Over the past four years, I've taught children between the ages of 2-10 and am currently nannying. I’m an avid reader, and when I’m not photographing life’s precious moments, you’ll often find me outdoors with a glass of sweet tea, journaling about them.

Katelyn Harper

Katelyn grew up both in front of and behind the camera. She has been working alongside her mom Melissa since she was a little girl helping in the studio and assisting at weddings. When she's not working, Kate enjoys being at the beach. Sunsets and ocean breezes make her happy.
