Important Details to Know Before Your Session
Newborns are considered under 1 month old, with the ideal window for photos being within the first 21 days—when babies are typically sleepier and more naturally curled.
Please note: Mini sessions are not available for newborns to ensure we have the time needed for feeding, soothing, and settling your little one without pressure.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
- The studio will be kept warm (75–80°F or more) to keep baby cozy during posed shots. I recommend dressing in light layers so you're comfortable too.
- Snacks and drinks are welcome, especially for parents and siblings!
- If you’re breastfeeding, try to avoid spicy foods or common gas-causing ingredients (like beans, broccoli, or onions) 12–24 hours before your session to help baby stay comfortable.
- Don’t stress about messes—accidents happen, and everything I use is washable. I’ve been peed on, pooped on, and spit up on—it’s all part of the job!
- Please bring a pacifier, even if baby doesn’t usually use one. It can be incredibly helpful for soothing between poses, especially during cluster feeding.
We have a wide variety of wraps, backdrops, props, accessories, and newborn outfits available for you to choose from, so no need to bring a thing unless there’s something special you’d like to include.
We offer a large variety of backdrops, props, wraps, accessories, and newborn outfits.

FAQ about your Newborn Session
How do we schedule since we don’t know when baby will arrive?
When you book, I’ll reserve your due date on my calendar as a placeholder. Once your baby arrives, just reach out within three days to officially schedule your session.
To ensure flexibility and availability, I only book a limited number of newborns each month—so early communication helps guarantee your spot!
How soon should I book a Newborn session?
Whether you're interested in a single newborn session or starting with my popular Grow-With-Me package, the ideal time to book is around 6–7 months into your pregnancy. This ensures availability and gives us time to plan your session with care.
If your baby has already arrived or is due soon—don’t worry! It’s never too late to reach out. Send me a message or give me a call, and I’ll do my best to fit you in as soon as possible.
What is the best age for a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are ideally held within the first 14 days after birth, when babies are sleepiest and most easily posed. That said, beautiful sessions are still possible up to 21 days old. As babies grow more alert, those classic sleepy, curled-up poses may become less likely—but every stage has its own kind of magic.
How long does a newborn session last?Session length depends on the type you choose:
- Wrapped and Lifestyle sessions are up to 1 hour long and designed to be simple, relaxed, and focused.
- Full Newborn sessions can last up to 3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes, soothing, and a variety of poses with baby, parents, and siblings.
Every session is baby-led, meaning we move at your little one’s pace to keep things calm and comfortable. Because of the time and care involved, I do not offer mini sessions for newborns.
Do I need to bring outfits?
Newborns are often so tiny that most outfits don’t fit quite right, which is why I typically recommend using wraps for your session. Wraps not only photograph beautifully but are also gentle to change and help keep your baby calm and cozy.
That said, if you have a special outfit you’d love to include, feel free to bring it along—I’m more than happy to incorporate it. I also have a wide selection of wraps in various colors and textures, along with an assortment of headbands to style your little one during the session.
Can siblings and or Mom/Dad be in the pictures?
Absolutely! Full Newborn sessions include parents and siblings at no extra charge. We’ll begin with family and sibling portraits first, while everyone is fresh and cooperative.
Because newborn sessions can last up to three hours and require a calm, quiet environment, it’s highly encouraged (though not required) that siblings leave the studio once their portion is complete. Dad, a grandparent, or another trusted adult can take them to a nearby park or home. This helps maintain a peaceful atmosphere and ensures a smooth, stress-free session for your newborn.
What is the difference between a newborn session and a lifestyle session? Can you come to my home for a Newborn session?
Traditional Newborn sessions take place in the studio and feature carefully styled poses with a variety of props and setups to create timeless portraits.
Lifestyle sessions, on the other hand, are typically held in your home and focus on capturing natural, candid moments using your surroundings as the backdrop. For these sessions, I bring minimal equipment and rely mostly on natural light. I incorporate your home’s personal touches—like the nursery, bedroom, or living room—as part of the storytelling, rather than using studio props.
If you’re interested in an in-home session, it will be more of a lifestyle experience rather than a posed, prop-heavy newborn shoot.
